Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences has received a shot in the arm with the State government sanctioning 224 staff nurse posts on a permanent basis to cater to over 500 in-patients at a time.
Over 100 of them joined duty on Friday. With this, RIMS has 254 staff nurses, 44 head nurses, one Grade I nursing superintendent and one Grade II nursing superintendent.
A visibly happy RIMS Director B. Anjaiah told reporters here that “we have been managing with just 30 staff nurses so far. We are extremely thankful to State Medical and Health Principal Secretary P.V. Ramesh for clearing our proposal, taking into account the hospital's future needs too. We will get more facilities as and when the medical college becomes fully functional.”
Exuding confidence that the Medical Council of India would give green signal for launching first year MBBS admissions from the new academic year, he said: “We have complied with all the conditions during the MCI team's two visits, including putting in place a 300-bed functioning hospital.”
Medical Superintendent G. Ramprasad described nursing as more noble profession that that of medicine and exhorted nurses to carry on the legacy of Florence Nightingale by owning the patients though they test their patience many a time with persistent queries.
