The police arrested three persons and seized 206 packets of ganja each weighing 2 kg, and estimated to be worth over ₹ 10lakh, and a truck here on Saturday.
Vizianagaram DSP A.V. Ramana produced the accused truck driver A. Siva Shankar Reddy of Kolliparla mandal in Guntur district, cleaner T. Durga Rao of Vadderagudem village in Nellore district, and supplier K. Chinna Rao of Darakonda panchayat (G.K. Veedhi mandal), Visakhapatnam district, at a press conference. Mr. Ramana said that the truck owner Immineni Sankara Rao of Vijayawada and truck supplier Myneni Sitaramayya of Penamaluru were yet to be arrested.
He said that the three accused were on way to Maharashtra from Kummari Thota village in G.K. Veedhi mandal to hand over the contraband to one Lyla Sankar of Sangli city.
Chinna Rao, who studied B.Sc, B.Ed, had been allegedly procuring ganja from tribal people at lesser rate and selling the same to traders at a higher price, the DSP added.
