The case of two girls who went missing from an orphanage in the city ended on a happy note with the police tracing them at their relative’s house in Machilipatnam on Sunday.

The girls – S. Rohini and Ch. Mariyamma – left Pavitratma Niketan at Gurunanak Colony on June 15 due to some internal problems in the NGO home, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) T.K. Rana.

Mr. Rana told the media here on Sunday that the girls escaped from the home and took an auto to the Pandit Nehru Bus Station (PNBS). The same night they boarded a bus to Machilipatnam. A woman passenger, on learning about their plight, took them to her home and gave them some money. In the morning, they went to Mariyamma’s uncle’s house in Machilipatnam.

The special teams formed to trace the girls took the lead from the auto driver (who dropped them at PNBS) and checked with their friends and relatives. Finally, they were traced in Yanadi Colony in the town.

When asked about the reasons for fleeing from the home, Rohini and Mariyamma said they had some disputes with other inmates, who insulted them several times, and hence they decided to go out of the home.

“We informed the sisters about the matter. But they did not solve the problem. We don’t want to stay in the Pavitratma Niketan,” the girls said.

86 girl missing cases

DCP (L&O) G. Pala Raju said 86 missing cases were reported in the city in the last five months, of which 75 were traced and 11 were pending.
