2 held in fake certificate scam

Satyanarayanapuram police on Wednesday arrested two persons for allegedly issuing fake degree certificates.

The accused – M. Bharadwaj of Machilipatnam and P. Suryanarayana of Visakhapatnam – reportedly issued fake degree certificates in the name of a reputed university of Bihar. According to Inspector M. Satyanarayana, the accused were running MSR Academy (Distance Education) at Machilipatnam. They lured several youth by giving advertisements in newspapers.

The duo gave wide publicity assuring issuing of graduation certificates with or without attending the classes and collected huge amount. The police who suspected foul play on the academy arranged a decoy party, who contacted the accused.

A home guard contacted the accused who promised to give degree certificate for Rs. 30,000, if he wrote the exams. They agreed to give the certificate for Rs. 60,000 without appearing for the exam. The home guard paid Rs. 2,000 as advance and promised to pay the remaining amount after he got the certificate. While he was paying the remaining amount at Vijayawada railway station, the police arrested the accused.
