Following the blasts in Guwahati Express Train at Chennai Central Railway Station, in which a passenger was killed and several persons were injured in the tragedy, police tightened security at all major railway stations in Vijayawada Railway Division on Thursday.
The victim is identified as a Guntur resident Swathi (22) who is among the 17 passengers from Guntur, Vijayawada and Rajahmundry travelling in the train according to railway officials.
"An alert has been sounded and security has been beefed up at all the railway stations including Visakhapatnam, Nellore, Khammam, Guntur, Rajahmundry, Tadepalligudem and other key stations. Government Railway Police (GRP) and the Railway Protection Force (RPF) were instructed to coordinate with Law and Order (L&O) police and conduct checkings on the entrances,platforms, waiting halls, canteens, parking places, ticket issuing counters, parcel offices and other vital points in the stations. Bomb detection squads and sniffer dog teams have been pressed into service," said GRP Superintendent of Police, Vijayawada Division, Ch. Syam Prasad.
