15 injured as truck overturns near Veerulapadu near Vijayawada

March 24, 2014 03:04 pm | Updated July 08, 2016 05:59 pm IST - VIJAYAWADA:

Fifteen agricultural labourers were injured when the truck in which they were travelling overturned at Veerulapadu mandal in the early hours of Monday. While six of them suffered fractures, the others escaped with minor injuries.

The labourers were travelling atop a truck carrying bags of paddy and chillies and were going from Veerulapadu to Palampalli.

According to Veerulapadu Sub-Inspector Mr. Avinash, the driver appears to have lost control while negotiating a sharp bend, resulting in the truck turning turtle. “This has been a standard mode of travel for the agricultural folks in these regions. They sit atop the truck in which they load their produce and go to the market to sell it,” said the Inspector.

While those who suffered fracture were admitted to the Government General Hospital in Vijayawada for treatment, the others were sent to Nandigama area hospital.
