A 14-year-old girl was allegedly raped by an auto driver in New Rajarajeshwari Peta in the city. The girl was five months pregnant, the police said.

On receiving information through the anganwadi workers, Integrated Child Protection Scheme (ICPS) staff, G. Prema Latha and DCPO Ch. Vijay Kumar, of Women Development and Child Welfare Department collected details from the girl’s family members and shifted her to the Government General Hospital (GGH) for medical examination.

North Zone Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) K. Sravani said the accused, Karla Ramu, a neighbour of the girl, lured the victim on the pretext of love and raped her several times. Not knowing that she got conceived, the girl was going to school, the ACP said. “The Ajit Singh Nagar police registered a case against the accused under Sections 376 of IPC (Rape), 366 (Kidnap) and also under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, 2012. A hunt has been launched to nab the auto driver,” Ms. Sravani said.

The District Child Protection Officer (DCPO) said the girl would be produced before the Child Welfare Committee for rehabilitation and medical aid would be provided to her.

“The ICPS staff will record the statements of the victim as well as her family members. The girl was very anaemic. We are waiting for the medical report,” Mr. Vijay Kumar said.
