10 held on charge of selling lottery tickets

2,900 tickets, Rs. 71,680 cash, 12 cellphones, and four motorcycles seized

The city police arrested 10 persons on the charge of selling lottery tickets brought from Karnataka, Kerala, and Sikkim States.

In all, 2,900 tickets, Rs. 71,680 cash, 12 cellphones, and four motorcycles were seized from their possession. The tickets seized were worth Rs. 3.13 lakh.

The police said the arrested persons were selling tickets though these lotteries were banned in the State. They were getting these lottery tickets through courier from other States and selling them secretly to fleece gullible public. Under the supervision of Deputy Police Commissioner M. Ravindranath Babu, Task Force Inspector Govinda Raju and SI Krishna Rao made the arrest.

Among the arrested, there were four agents – B. Deepak of One Town, Sami Venkata Subrahmanyam of Bavajipet, V. Srinivas of Vidyadharapuram, and V. Ramulu of Krishna Lanka area in the city. The remaining six persons were sub agents, who were operating through the main agents.

The police said these agents were selling tickets carrying names of eight types of lotteries, namely, Tangam, Nallaneram, KJ Rosha, Kumaran, Dear, Kuilee, Abil, and Kerala. The arrested persons were handed over to the respective police stations for further investigation and suspect sheets were opened on them.
