Schools without walls and an innovative approach to education will encourage fresh minds, Additional DGP V.V. Lakshminarayana said here on Thursday.

Speaking on the theme “Social and Emotional Wellness in Schools — Vision for Tomorrow,’’ at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan here, Mr. Lakshminarayana said that countries like Finland had offered some of the best models of school education.

Suggesting to teachers that students could be used as mentors in motivating others to perform better, he said that children should be on an equal level and realise their potential.

“Have 3-6 groups of 15-20 students in classes and teachers can ask the students to motivate others who are not able perform well,’’ Mr. Lakshminarayana said.

The senior IPS officer said that interaction with parents would make students overcome learning disabilities.

A good family atmosphere at home would go in a long way in fostering academic interest among children.

Students should be encouraged to learn earning while still studying so that they realize the importance of earning money.

Weekends should be spent on hobbies, reading and recreational activities so that students could learn to control their emotions, he said. Secretary of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan P.R. Raju said that the school management has been encouraging students to think creatively by making social and science projects.
