Youth strive for glory at inter-zonal athletic meet

Over 800 participate in the three-day event

The three-day Anna University inter-zonal athletic meet, which concluded on Monday, saw sprightly youngsters giving their best in quest of glory. The meet held at Kongunadu College of Engineering and Technology at Tholurpatti in the district witnessed participation of over 800 athletes in 22 events each for men and women. Colleges across the State affiliated to the Anna University were divided into 19 zones. Best performers in each zone were selected for the inter-zonal competition.

Zone III bagged the team titles in both the men’s and women’s sections. Speaking at the valediction, S. Selladurai, Deputy Chairman, Sports Board, Anna University, Chennai, said that the meet provided ample opportunity for youngsters to showcase their talents.

He advised the youth to take part in sporting activities. Mr. Selladurai gave away the prizes in the presence of PSK.R.Periaswamy, chairman, Kongunadu Institutions; R. Asokan, principal, Kongunadu College of Engineering and Technology; and N. Annavi, former international high jumper.
