Young World Fest 2010 off to a grand start

Amid avid anticipation by a larger number of participants, the second edition of ‘ The Hindu Young World Fest 2010' got off to a splendid start at the MD Hall on Thursday.

This time around, 1,260 students of 70 schools in 11 districts have registered for the three-day literary and cultural festival featuring 10 events. English elocution, group dance Indian (classical) and group dance Indian film/popular-Western marked the rather fierce preliminary competitions on the first day.

Right from the moment the first lady of BHEL, Tiruchi, and Patron of Arivalayam Rajam Krishnan chose the team from Boiler Plant Girls' Higher Secondary School for the first performance of classical dance in a draw of lots, the spirit of competition engulfed the participants.

Ms.Rajam was joined by the GM– Outsourcing G. Ramakrishna, the GM– Human Resource and P.Nainar, a teacher and a student in lighting the lamp. Complimenting The Hindu for pioneering the concept of literary and cultural competitions , Mr. Nainar said the BHEL deemed it a pride to sponsor the event for the second year in succession coinciding with the 20 years of completion of the Young World supplement.

The event was a platform for them to derive the positive impact of their exposure to television and Internet, and imbibe leadership traits, Mr. Nainar said.

The overwhelming participation and the growing sponsorship signify the importance of the event that has been envisaged as a forum for students to prepare themselves for global competition by exhibiting their talents, said R.Srinivasan, Regional General Manager, The Hindu , Tiruchi.

The BHEL, Tiruchi, is the title sponsor . Punjab National Bank, SASTRA University and Anand Engineering are the associate sponsors. The South Zone Cultural Centre, Thanjavur, has also associated itself as a sponsor. Vasan Healthcare, Ayyan Fireworks, Classic Foods, Voyager Electronics, Black Thunder Water Theme Park and KMC Speciality Hospital are the co-sponsors. Sangam Hotels is the hospitality sponsor and Livia Polymer Bottles the specific event sponsor for Indian classical category while ARC Aqua Puraa is the water sponsor.
