Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) on Friday launched its Tiruchi Chapter of Young Indians (Yi), a national organisation it formed in 2002, to tap socio-economic advantages accruing from India’s advantageous demography.
The Tiruchi Yi Chapter was launched by the Director of Indian Institute of Management – Tiruchirapalli Prafulla Agnihotri as the fifth in Tamil Nadu and 28 in the country to promote the attitude of ‘we can, we will’. The occasion was graced by Narayan Sethuramon, Chairman, CII Tamil Nadu; Prasanna Rajagopalan, Regional Head, Yi (Southern Region), and Rani Muralidharan, chairperson, CII Tiruchi Zone.
Established as a platform for progressive young citizens in the 25 to 40 years age group consisting of entrepreneurs, professionals and achievers in different areas to become an integral part of Indian growth story, Yi has as its focus areas youth leadership, youth social entrepreneurship and international engagements with the vision: to become the voice of young Indians globally. In CII’s Tiruchi zone encompassing the central districts of Tamil Nadu, the newly launched local chapter with former zonal chairperson J. Leo Ananth as the Founder Chair and Somasundaram as Co-Chair will work in the verticals of environment, employment and entrepreneurship, youth affairs and innovation, arts and culture, healthcare, learning sessions, and rural initiatives.
Young Indians have globally proved their dynamism, courage and vision in developmental areas with passion for new thinking fostered by access to knowledge and capability to learn from experience under a framework of guidance, Prof. Agnihotri said in his address. Relate your products to economy and the nation’s development by setting eyes on world market, thereby enhancing respectability to ‘made in India’ label. India needs to be restored its past glory, he told the gathering of industrialists.
Quality comes with hard work, the IIM-T Director said, advocating creation of patents.
Membership in Yi will prove to be a great experience as people with disparate minds get together and work for the larger agenda of realising India’s dreams, Mr. Narayan Sethuramon, who is also Yi’s past National Chairman, said. Industrialists have benefitted from their membership in Yi by applying the leadership experience they gain in the organisation for progress in their own ventures, he said.
Mr. Prasanna Rajagopalan made a presentation detailing how Yi has been serving as a catalyst for nation building by igniting young minds.
Members are mentored, and receive support through peer learning and international networking, he said, adding that they could be a part of Yi/ CII business delegations to other countries.
