About 100 students from five city colleges took up a two-wheeler yatra for world peace and patriotism and visited six historically-important sites in the city on Wednesday.

Organised by the Tiruchi district branch of Indian Red Cross Society, JCI Tiruchi, and Youth Exnora International, the programme was aimed at spreading awareness on these historical sites. “Each of these sites is a testimony to our forefathers’ patriotism,” said P. Mohan, State president, Youth Exnora International, who highlighted the objective of the yatra.

Starting from the Salt Sathyagraha Memorial, the students visited Major Saravanan square, Gandhi Mandapam, World War I memorial clock tower at Gandhi Market, Va.Ve.Su Iyer memorial, and finished their tour at Government Museum which once housed the Rani Mangammal’s Durbar Hall.

The students placed wreaths and offered floral tributes at the memorials.

V.P. Thandapani, Corporation Commissioner, inaugurated the programme at the Salt Sathyagraha Memorial.

K. Balamurugan, Passport Officer, was among those present.

Students from Srimad Andavan College of Arts and Science, Jamal Mohamed College, Indira Ganesan group of educational institutions, M.A.M. group of institutions, and Holy Cross College participated.
