Well-known writer Manushyaputhiran on Sunday sought to strike a chord with voters at Thuvarankurichi, his native village, by calling upon them to unite against communalism by supporting the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam alliance.
Mr.Manushyaputhiran, who addressed a campaign meeting ahead of party president M.Karunanidhi’s visit to the village, described communalism as the greatest danger that the country was facing now. Communal forces were attempting to divide the people. The DMK is the only party which opposed communalism tooth and nail.
“We have lived amidst dargahs, churches, and temples. Have we ever fought against each other? But communal forces are trying to pit us against each other as enemies. Vote for communal harmony. If you lose this opportunity, nobody can save us,” he told the voters.
He saw a conspiracy in the coming together of the BJP, DMDK, MDMK and other parties to form an alliance as they did not want the anti-AIADMK votes to go to the DMK. “AIADMK leader Jayalalithaa too wants BJP leader Narendra Modi to become the Prime Minister to protect her interests,” he charged.
The AIADMK government, he said, has not done anything for the benefit of the people in the past three years. Power cuts have only increased and there is no power for agriculture. Village youths are migrating to cities in search of jobs, he said, urging voters to support the DMK.
