A large number of members from the Self Help Groups (SHG) and Non-Governmental Organisations (NGO) attended a workshop on the ‘Right to Information Act’ conducted by the Alangudi Taluk Legal Services Authority at Alangudi in Pudukottai district on Saturday.
R. Malathi, Chairman of the Taluk Legal Services Authority, Alangudi, inaugurated the workshop and said it had been conducted exclusively for the members of NGOs and SHGs as part of the ‘Right to Information Week’ being observed by the Tamil Nadu Legal Services Authority.
She explained in detail about the right to get information from the government departments under the Right to Information Act and also about filing petitions for obtaining information.
Mr. Malathi also released pamphlets on the RTI Act, which explained the salient features of the Act and how information should be obtained.
G. Kanagaraj, Assistant Public Prosecutor and a number of lawyers of Alangudi spoke about the Right to Information Act.
