Work on construction of East Coast Road between Villupuram and Nagapattinam is being executed in a faster phase, thanks to the initiative by the National Highways Authroity of India. At Sirkali near here, a work on construction of massive bridge across the Uppanar is being executed in a faster phase.

According to official sources, the bridge is one of the major bridges under construction in the segment. The length of the bridge is 70 metres and its breadth is about 10 metres. The volume of vehicles on the East Coast Road has been on the rise. Being a coastal belt, there are a number of curves and rivers and rivulets in the old highway. “All these curves are being re-organised and straightened for ensuring speed and safety of the vehicles,” an official source told ‘The Hindu’ on Monday.

The work would be completed in course of time and would be thrown open to traffic.
