The presence of M. D. Valsamma, Olympian and Asiad gold medal winner, provided added attraction to the 80th annual sports meet of Campion Anglo-Indian Higher Secondary School in the city on Saturday.
Montfort House won the overall championship with a points tally of 218, followed by Xavier house 193, and Loyola House 175.
M.S. Naresh of Montfort House (Under 12 years), I. Mohamed Ajmal of Montfort (Under 14); R. Kritish of Xavier and D. Deric Remo of Loyola (both under 17) and D. Febius Gladdy of Loyola (under 19) won the individual championships. The Xavier House was adjudged to be the Best in the March-past and also received ‘the Best Discipline Trophy’.
The chief guest was K. Asokan, former Indian Foreign Service officer who served in different capacities in the Ministry of External Affairs and in Indian Diplomatic Missions abroad.
Ms. Valsamma, winner of Arjuna and Padma Shri awards and Senior Commercial Manager and Presenting Officer, Railway Claims Tribunal, Ernakulam, in her address urged the parents to allow their children to take part in sports from a young age. She exhorted the participants to work hard.
Bro. Arul, Principal, presided over the valediction. Students through, rope and pillar asanas, stressed on the need for a sound mind in a healthy body.
