Wooing young voters through social media

Congress conducted a day-long workshop to impart training on social media to select party cadres in Tiruchi and Coimbatore zones

The Congress has adopted a strategy to woo young voters through social media. A day-long workshop for imparting training on social media to select party cadres of Tiruchi and Coimbatore zones was held here on Sunday. Representatives of the Tamil Nadu Congress Committee (TNCC), IT professionals, students and lawyers imparted the training.

Explaining the principles of the workshop, K. Balasubramanian, TNCC general secretary, said the Congress cadres would be briefed on how to propagate the people-oriented schemes such as the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme which had helped “improve the socio-economic status of the rural masses.” Projects funded by the Congress-led UPA government would also be highlighted through the social media.

Vijay Gnanadesikan, who heads the social media training team, said a similar workshop was conducted in Madurai last month in which party cadres from 18 districts in the Madurai zone participated. The policies of the Congress government would be explained to the masses.

He said the social media campaign would make an impact on the voters, especially tech-savvy youths.

The inter-personal communication would go a long way in sensitising the masses to the efforts of the Congress and the UPA government for the country’s overall development. He said the trainees would also be briefed on the ethics of using social media and the “dos and don’ts”.

G. Jerome Arokiaraj, party’s urban district secretary and S. Sujatha, former Mayor were present.
