Women poll officials seek better facilities

April 04, 2014 12:16 pm | Updated May 21, 2016 08:24 am IST - TIRUCHI:

The Tamil Nadu Elementary School Teachers’ Federation has pleaded for separate seat for the women poll officials and adequate protection for them in the polling booths in the Lok Sabha elections. It demanded posting of women police constables in all the booths.

A resolution to this effect was adopted at the executive committee meeting held here on Tuesday. The meeting appealed to the State government to sanction DA on par with central government teachers. Recently, the Education Department had introduced a new scheme whereby the maintenance grant was fixed at Rs. 36 a student instead of 2 per cent of the salary expenditure. This has resulted in the surrender of funds without proper utility. The meeting urged the government to construct a building for the municipal primary school on Jinnah Street, which has been housed in a private building for 85 years.

M. James, president of the Tiruchi wing of the federation, presided over the programme. J. Albertdoss, secretary, spoke.
