Woman murdered, police name husband

A 42-year-old man allegedly murdered his wife in their house at Gandhipuram near Pettavaithalai on Sunday.

As the victim – R. Kavitha (39) – was from the Dalit community, the investigation would be done by an officer in the rank of Deputy Superintendent of Police. Police have named Kavitha’s husband E.Rajendran, a mason, as accused in the murder case. The couple, who got married 10 years ago, has two sons and two daughters.

According to police, Rajendran, a drunkard, hardly use to give money to his wife to run the family. On Sunday, he had an argument with his wife and allegedly banged her head against the wall causing her death. Neighbours noticed Kavitha lying dead on the floor with her nose and head bleeding.

On a complaint from the victim’s brother, A. Kamaraj, the Pettavaithalai police have a registered a case under IPC section 302 (murder) read with the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
