The drinking water supply situation during the summer and the precautionary steps to be taken while drilling borewells were discussed at the Grama Sabha meetings held in 404 village panchayats in the district on Friday, on the occasion of May Day.

District Collector K.S. Palanisamy, who participated in the gram sabha meeting at Aniyapur village panchayat in Vaiyampatti union, appealed to the people of the village to make use of the public service centres set up under the e-governance project to get certificates from the Revenue Department. He called upon them to give priority to hygiene and build toilets in all households.

Mr. Palanisamy distributed safety gear to five sanitary guards under the solid waste management programme in the village. Village records, including registers of the ration shops, were placed for social audit at the grama sabha meetings, an official release said.
