Water released from Mettur reached Mutharasanallur on Thursday evening and Public Works Department sources are confident that the water will reach the check dam at Kambarasampettai by midnight.
Since the riverbed is dry, it takes a long time for the water to reach its destination points, source said.
More than 6,800 cusecs of water was being released from Mettur dam on Thursday.
