Water maybe touted as a divisive force but it can also be a unifying element was testified in the city when farmers, students and government officials rallied together for a common cause on the occasion of World Water Day observed on Thursday.
Flagging off the rally from St.John's Vestry Anglo Indian School, Collector Jayashree Muralidharan, said water security for present and future generations can be ensured only by increasing its utility and judicious use of existing water resources.
Officials under the aegis of the Centre of Excellence for Change, a collaborative initiative by officials of eight government departments of agriculture, public works, agricultural engineering, agri-business, horticulture, fisheries, animal husbandry and the agricultural college joined the rally that concluded in Bishop Heber College enroute central bus stand, railway junction, head post office and the Annal Gandhi Memorial Government Hospital.
In keeping with the theme of the year, ‘food and water security' officials insisted on water conservation to counter decreasing water levels brought about by climactic changes. A folk arts programme, ‘Thaneer Kaneer' was held.
