There are a total of 2,68,516 voters in Thanjavur Assembly Constituency as per the draft electoral roll released ahead of a special summary revision of electoral rolls here on Monday.
While all the Assembly constituencies that went to the polls in May last, the Election Commission of India deferred Assembly elections to Thanjavur and Aravakurichi constituencies following complaints of rampant distribution of cash to voters ahead of the polling. The deferred polls were later held on November 19. That forced the Commission to postpone the special summary revision of electoral rolls for the two constituencies.
Following the nod of the Election Commission, the district administration released the draft electoral rolls for Thanjavur Assembly Constituency on Monday. As per the electoral rolls released, there are 1,30,146 male electors, 1,38,352 female electors and 18 voters belong to the Others category for a total electorate of 2,68,516 voters. The eligible voters have completed 18 years of age as on January 1, 2016.
District Collector A. Annadurai released the copy of the electoral rolls in the presence of the representatives of the recognised political parties. Copies of the rolls would be displayed at the District Collectorate, RDO Office, Taluk Office, Municipal Corporation and all polling stations in the constituency for the public to verify the entries. If they notice any discrepancy in the details pertaining to their names and identity, the concerned voters needed to apply in the relevant form within 15 days after which the correction would be duly incorporated after verification.
Mr. Annadurai, who is also the District Electoral Officer, has called upon those who have completed 18 years of age as on January 1, 2017, to apply for entering the electoral rolls in the specific forms assigned for the purpose.
