The Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) government has degenerated into family rule and voters in Tamil Nadu want to unseat Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi and elect the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK)-led front, said A. B. Bardhan, national general secretary of the Communist Party of India, here on Friday.

Addressing reporters, Mr. Bardhan said that every aspect of governance had become part of the family rule. During the course of his campaign, he could clearly realise that the voters were bent upon removing the DMK government.

The DMK was attempting to win the elections by bribing the electorate, he alleged and urged voters to reject bribes.

Though the Election Commission had tightened measures against distribution of money to voters, the cash seized was just the tip of the iceberg. The Election Commission needed to do a lot more to curb poll violations.

In reply to a question, he said that the outcome of the Tamil Nadu elections would have its impact on national politics.
