Frustrated over the denial of permission by the Lalgudi revenue divisional officer to conduct ‘Jallikattu’, villagers of Irungalur near Mannachanallur came with a bull to the collectorate to present a petition to Collector Jayashree Muralidharan seeking permission to conduct the annual festivity.

As the police prevented the villagers from taking the bull inside the collectorate, they had a heated argument. Later, leaving the bull outside, a delegation approached the Collector and sought her intervention for conducting the festival before this month-end.

They reasoned out that the High Court had already accorded its assent and complained that the RDO had denied permission even without visiting the village to assess adequacy of the arrangements. The villagers said they had conducted the event successfully in 2011. The Collector agreed to consider their request, they said.
