Over 3.40 lakh tonnes of paddy procured in Thanjavur, Tiruvarur

About 1.44 lakh tonnes of paddy have been procured through 402 direct procurement centres (DPCs) in the district so far, said N.Subbaiyan, District Collector.

The district administration has made adequate arrangements, including machinery for threshing paddy. He advised DPC personnel to create awareness among farmers about receiving payment for their produce through funds transfer to their savings bank accounts, although cash disbursement too was available. Consent forms for obtaining payments through bank accounts are available at the DPCs. The Collector, who inspected a few DPCs in Mariammankovil, Kulichapattu, Valamarakottai and Kattur, said that a vigilance committee has been constituted to monitor the procurement process and look into complaints against DPC staff.

TIRUVARUR: A total of 2.02 lakh tonnes of paddy has been procured so far through 427 direct procurement centres (DPC) and seven mobile centres in Tiruvarur district. S.Natarajan, District Collector, recently conducted a surprise check at a few DPCs in Kottaiyur, Pulavarnatham, Alangudi, Mela Amaravathy, Haridwaramangalam, Terkkupattam and Payari villages in Valangaiman block.

At Pulavarnatham DPC, he directed the Tamil Nadu Civil Supplies Corporation to initiate action against procurement staffs, as some of the records were not found to be in proper order. He directed the officials to move the purchased paddy to the nearest godowns for safe storage to ensure that DPCs have enough space for new arrivals.
