Members owing allegiance to the Tamil Nadu Government Village Health Nurses Welfare Association staged a demonstration near the Collectorate on Monday.

The village health nurses urged the State government to withdraw the proposal on appointing undergraduate and postgraduate nursing degree holders in health sub centres.

S. Sakkammal, district president of the association, presided over the protest. More than 100 Village Health Nurses from different parts of the district participated in it.

They said that new proposal would reduce the chances of nursing diploma holders to become nurses in Health Centres. More over, there was no need for posting UG and PG degree holders in health sub centres.

Starting nursing training schools in all districts and clearing anomalies in the 7th Pay Commission recommendation for nurses were among the demands.
