Vehicle checks at 47 spots to curb crime

In an effort to check property crimes of different types, the City Police has launched vehicle checks at select spots.

The system has been put in place from Saturday with the police having identified 47 spots here to carry out vehicle checks. The checks would be carried out in the respective police station limits falling within the City Police Commissionerate.

Teams comprising constables have been formed to carry out the vehicle checks at the designated spots. Every identified spot would have two constables to carry out the mandated task.

A police press release said three spots had been identified each in the jurisdiction of Cantonment, Golden Rock, Airport, Ariyamangalam, Fort, Palakkarai, Gandhi Market, Srirangam and Thillai Nagar police station limits. Four places had been identified each in the limits of E. Pudur, K. K. Nagar, Woraiyur and Government Hospital police stations. The vehicle checks would be conducted under the supervision of the respective Police Inspectors. The objective behind this move was to curb crimes, including chain snatching and burglary besides to check any unlawful activity, said the release.
