The Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) will take a decision on its stand on the by-election to the Tiruchi West Assembly constituency on Sunday, its leader Thol. Thirumavalavan said here on Saturday.
Addressing reporters, Mr. Thirumavalavan said that he would ascertain the views of the party leaders and take a decision on extending the party's support.
On the setting up of an expert group to address legitimate concerns of people on the safety aspect of Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant, Mr. Thirumavalavan said that the Prime Minister had duped people without understanding their apprehensions and feelings. The State government too, he said, had played a double game on the issue.
More women candidates in the fray
The VCK had fielded a large number of women candidates in key posts and included non-Dalits as nominees in local body elections. “Lack of civic amenities will be the agenda of the campaign. A majority of areas in both urban and rural pockets are yet to get potable water and proper roads,” he said.
Clemency
On clemency for death convicts in the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case, Mr. Thirumavalavan said he would organise a signature campaign for mobilising the support of MPs to revoke the death sentence and submit the signatures to the Prime Minister during the winter session.
