Cadre arrested across the delta region for staging protests in front of collectorates
The city police on Tuesday arrested 50 members of Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) for staging a demonstration without permission in front of the district collectorate in the city.
They were protesting the military training being provided to Sri Lankan personnel in India. The protestors were detained in a community hall at the armed reserve police grounds and released later in the day.
In a related incident, Ariyamangalam police rounded up about 30 members of Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) when they assembled to display black flags to Sri Lankan pilgrims on their way to Tiruchi Airport from Nagapattinam.
The protestors were led by MDMK urban district secretary Malarmannan and urban secretary Cheran.
Cadre of Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) staged a demonstration in front of the collectorate here on Tuesday protesting the Union Minister of State for Defence M.M.Pallam Raju’s statement in support of the training to Sri Lankan officials in Tamil Nadu.
Kalaimurasu, district secretary of the party, led the agitation. Ara.Selvam, state executive member, participated.
Members of VCK staged a demonstration in front of the collectorate.
Taking strong exception to the continued training provided to the two officials at the Wellington Defence Services Staff College, the protesters condemned the Centre for its callous attitude towards sentiments of Tamils.
In Perambalur, the agitation was led by Veera Sengolan, district secretary of the VCK party.
About 37 cadre were arrested and let off later.
In Ariyalur, the cadre of the party led by Anbanandam staged a demonstration in front of the taluk office here.
