The newly appointed Vice-Chancellor of Anna University of Technology-Tiruchi, P.Devadas Manoharan paid a visit to the Anna University, Thirukuvalai Campus that had been running on borrowed premise for two years, here on Monday.
The Vice-Chancellor, on his maiden visit also inspected the site allotted by the government for the new engineering complex. The project proposed to be spread over an area of 40.2 acres was purchased by the government from the Dharmapuram Adhinam. The site would host an academic block with a ground plus two floors, each with a built-up area of 1.57,337 Sq.ft. The government has made a one-time sanction of Rs.17.18 crores for the project.
To query on the blueprint of the complex, Dr.Mahoharan stated that the complex would be designed as per the parameters specified for academic institutions.
In the interim period, six workshops that are currently-under construction would function as temporary classrooms for first year students. According to the Vice-Chancellor, each of the designated-classroom would be air-conditioned and the classes would commence from these shelters from September 15. The temporary shelters would be fully equipped with internet connectivity.
The campus has been running with about six classrooms for five courses in the borrowed premise of Anjugam Ammayar Government Higher Secondary School since its announcement and inception in 2008. This had been a cause of much dissent in the past month among the students.
Five courses of civil, mechanical, electrical and electronics, ECE and computer science are being offered in English medium and civil and mechanical is being offered in Tamil medium.
The construction works for the Academic Block are proposed to be implemented by the Technical wing of Directorate of Technical Education. As of date, called for tenders are being processed.
