VC urges teachers to impart value-based education

Srirangam Boys HSS celebrates centenary of its main building

Teachers must impart value-based education, said R.Sethuraman, vice-chancellor, SASTRA University, Thanjavur, at the centennial address at the Higher Secondary School for Boys, Srirangam, on Saturday.

Mr.Sethuraman highlighted the present scenario of education sector.

The school, which has been in existence for 115 years, celebrated the centenary of main building.

The building has been recently renovated at a cost of Rs.15 lakhs, according to M.S.Nandakumar, secretary, SES.

Mr.Sethuraman rededicated the renovated building to the school during the centenary celebrations.

S.Ram, chairman, Wheels India Ltd, Chennai, released the centenary souvenir and delivered the special address. He highlighted the need for quality education and said that it is necessary for the industries to have the right mix of talents.

Nearly 500 persons, including alumni, community members attended the event. A few alumni above the age of 90, as well as a few descendents of the school founders were among those present. They were honoured with mementos.

S.Nandakumar, secretary, SES, explained the achievements of the school.

A cultural programme, encompassing a dance drama for nearly 45 minutes by Srirangam Bharatanatyalaya, was also presented.
