Varsity, WEAT hold conference on ‘entrepreneurial opportunities’

Women should draw inspiration from leaders to derive strength and confidence to make a substantial contribution for the development of society, said V.M. Muthukumar, Vice-Chancellor, Bharathidasan University, here on Saturday.

Delivering the valedictory address at the two-day conference on “domestic and export entrepreneurial opportunities for women and youth”, organised by the Department of Women’s Studies of Bharathidasan University and Women Entrepreneurship Association of Tamil Nadu (WEAT), Dr. Muthukumar said the contribution of women to nation building had seen dramatic improvement.

More and more women were taking part in various fields such as politics, education, social activism, and entrepreneurship.

They had displayed their prowess right from food processing to aeronautics.

The country had produced so many women leaders and achievers such as the former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, Chief Minister Jayalalithaa and so on. There were still many avenues waiting to be conquered by women.

Malala Yousufzai of Pakistan attracted the attention of the world by getting Nobel Prize at the age of 17 for her fighting spirit to ensure education for women. Women should take up challenging assignments, he said.

N.S. Prema, Commissioner, Tiruchirapalli City Corporation, spoke. aid women should strive to achieve economic independence.

Rani Muralidharan, president, Women Entrepreneurs’ Association of Tamil Nadu, and N. Manimekalai, Head, Department of Women Studies, Bharathidasan University, spoke.

Earlier, special awards were presented to women entrepreneurs of Tiruchi and other areas of Tamil Nadu for excelling in their ventures.
