VAO arrested for bribe

Officials of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption arrested a Village Administrative Officer for allegedly demanding and accepting bribe from a person for issuing certificate to get marriage assistance on Wednesday.

According to DVAC sources, R.Chithra (36), the VAO of Orattur near Nagapattinam, had allegedly demanded Rs.1, 500 to issue a certificate to get marriage assistance under farmers’ protection scheme to the wife of Vinodh (24), son of Jeya Paul.

Unable to pay the amount, Vinodh lodged a complaint with the DVAC. Chithra was arrested while accepting the bribe and later remanded to judicial custody for 15 days.
