‘CRS would inspect the line within a month’
Track doubling work on the 25-km stretch from Valadi to Kallakudi Palanganatham, in the Villupuram-Tiruchi chord line, has been completed and a request would be made to the Commissioner of Railway Safety (CRS) to inspect the section, Southern Railway General Manager Rakesh Misra said on Wednesday.
The CRS would inspect the doubling work between Valadi and Kallakudi Palanganatham within a month, Mr. Misra told reporters here after inspecting the broad gauge section from Vriddhachalam to Tiruchi.
The doubling work would be completed by September or October, Mr. Misra said. The Rail Vikas Nigam Limited, a special purpose vehicle and a Government of India Enterprise, is executing the doubling project.
As part of his annual inspection, Mr. Misra said he had inspected in detail the condition of the track, stations, bridges, points, and level-crossings falling between Vriddhachalam and Tiruchi. He inspected the railway quarters and basic facilities provided to the railway staff as part of his inspection that lasted over four hours.
The GM who came by a special train was accompanied by top Southern Railway officers, including the Chief Mechanical Engineer S.K. Sood, Principal Chief Engineer M. Sathish, Chief Administrative Officer (Constructions) S. Vijayakumaran, Chief Security Commissioner, RPF, V.K. Dhaka, Chief Operations Manager S. Mohan, and Chief Commercial Manager Sarala Balagopal.
