A large number of devotees offered worship at Sri Panchavarnaswamy temple at Woraiyur and pulled the temple car on the occasion of ‘Vaikasi Visaka Peruvizha’ on Tuesday.

The processional idols of Sri Somaskandar, Sri Anandavalli, and Sri Skandar were brought to the temple car at about 10 a.m. and, amidst religious fervour, devotees pulled the car through the four streets around the temple. The car was brought to rest around noon. Special ‘abhishekam’ was performed to Lord Nataraja in the evening. The Vaikasi Visakam festival commenced on June 2 and the ‘tirukalyanam’ celebrations were held on Friday. The car festival signifies the ninth day rituals. The ‘theerthavari’ will be performed on Wednesday.

The Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments department has sanctioned a new temple car to be built in course of time, according to sources.
