Six Uzbeks, who were allegedly travelling on stolen Danish passports, have been detained at the airport here.

According to the police, the six, comprising two families, had come to India separately as tourists last month and visited several places. They were scheduled to visit the United Kingdom via Colombo.

However, on arriving in Colombo, immigration officials noticed that they were travelling on stolen Danish passports and deported them to India, the police said.

The Uzbeks, identified as Jacob and his wife Daniella and Dennis, his wife Marja and their children- Dina (14) and Araf(5)- were detained after they landed at Tiruchirappalli airport on Wednesday.

Intelligence officials in Colombo and the Danish Embassy had informed airport officials here that they had stolen the passports in Goa, the police said.
