An integrated and determined struggle without any interpretation on political affiliations alone could bring about an expeditious and amicable solution for the Cauvery water dispute, said speakers at a function organised by Tamil Nadu PWD Senior Engineers Association in Tiruchi on Saturday.
The function was got up to release a short film and a book on ‘Cauvery water dispute and rightful solution’ produced and authored by a group of PWD engineers with sound experience in irrigation management.
S. Muthukumaran, former vice chancellor of Bharathidasan University, said the Cauvery water dispute issue should be totally rid of political imbroglio in the State.
“Whenever the issue surfaces, it is only political representatives – not stakeholders – who are often deputed to hold talks in Bangalore,” he said explaining the political colour behind the issue in Tamil Nadu.
S. Ranganathan, general secretary of Cauvery Delta Farmers Welfare Association, recollected the cooperation the association had received since its inception from the State government.
He was quite optimistic that the issue would be resolved soon. A united fight above political interest was the need of the hour.
A. Veerappan, State secretary of the association, and P. Maniarasan, coordinator, Cauvery Urimai Meetpukuzhu, said that Tamil Nadu, being at the receiving end, had been denied its legitimate share despite the verdict by the apex court in the Cauvery issue. Constitutional action against the Karnataka government for not abiding by the verdict would be a permanent solution. Earlier, Mr. Muthukumaran released the short film and the first copy was received by Mr. Ranganathan. The first copy of the book was received by M. Subramaniam.
