Union urges State to fill up posts

The Tamil Nadu Government Employees Union has urged the State government to fill up posts lying vacant for the past several years in various departments.

Addressing presspersons here on Sunday, M. Pitchaiah, its State president, said that a large number of posts were lying vacant in almost all the departments.

The date for the implementation of the recommendations of the Sixth Pay Commission should be fixed at January 1, 2006 and the arrears should be disbursed immediately.

Presently, the State government had fixed the date at January 1, 2007 and disbursed the arrears in three instalments, the union demanded.

The union will organise a meeting of employees from May 5 to 12 in support of these demands. On May 13, it will organise a demonstration at all the district headquarters. The next day, the representatives of the union would submit a memorandum to the Chief Minister, M. Karunanidhi.

Earlier, the executive committee of the union adopted resolutions in support of these demands.
