Two students of a private engineering college in Namakkal were killed and seven more injured when the college van by which they were proceeding to the college from Thathaiengarpet, collided with a lorry on the Thuraiyur - Namakkal road at Thakkampatti village on Monday.

The incident happened when the lorry, laden with parcel consignments, was coming here from Bangalore. Two students, Bhuvaneswari of Thuraiyur, a MCA student and Sowmiya of Meyyampatti village, a BE Computer Science student, succumbed to injuries on the way to the Government Hospital in Thuraiyur.

All the injured students were admitted to the Thuraiyur Government Hospital. The Thathaiengarpet police have registered a case and arrested Subramanian, truck driver.
