A protest against the Dravida Kazhagam leader K.Veeramani’s alleged derogatory remarks against Lord Krishna and the Bhagavad Gita organised by the Bharatha Munnetra Kazhagam resulted in fisticuffs between members of the two organisations in the city on Saturday.

Police arrested 103 members of the Bharatha Munnetra Kazhagam and five members of the Dravida Kazhagam following the clash.

Protest march

The Bharatha Munnetra Kazhagam, which claims to be a political party representing the Yadava community, had called for the protest along with a few other organisations. The protestors, led by Bharatharaja, president, Bharatha Munnetra Kazhagam, took out a short march carrying an effigy of Mr.Veeramani with the intention of burning it in the Palakkarai area.

Angered over this, a group of DK members who had assembled at the spot started attacking the protestors. With the rival group engaged in fisticuffs, police intervened to set them apart.
