Two girls, who have been engaged as bonded labourers in a farm in this district, have been rescued.

According to an official release, Kavitha, 10, and Malarkodi, 4, were said to have been employed in the farm of E.Kanakaraj at Nerkunam village. They were forced to graze the sheep, it was learnt.

When the Perambalur Revenue Divisional officer, District Social Welfare officer and the village administrative officer raided the said farm, they found that these children had been employed there as bonded labourers. When the children were brought before the Collector, he also enquired the children and learnt that their parents had left them at the farm collecting some amount from the owner.

The owner of the farm, who forced them to look after 60 sheep, did not even provide them adequate food, he learnt. Legal action has been initiated against the owner of the farm and also the parents of the children, Murugesan and Pattu.
