Two brothers end life in Karur after usurers takeover their house

Two brothers committed suicide at Thanthonimalai by consuming alcohol mixed with poison allegedly because of the mounting debt burden.

The names of the victims were given as Manoharan (45), who was working as a laboratory assistant in a Government Higher Secondary School near Eesanatham, and his brother Annadurai (40) of Bharathidasan Nagar.

Sources said the two died at a private hospital one after another on Wednesday night. The bodies were later taken to the Government Hospital in Karur for post-mortem.

The police, who searched their house, found a suicide note allegedly written by one of the victims.

They had stated in the note that they took the extreme step because of usury and forcible takeover of their house by the moneylenders.

They have mentioned a few names along with their contact numbers, who were responsible for the abetment of suicide.

A large number of family members, relatives, and friends of them, staged a protest in front of the hospital demanding that the police register a case against those responsible for the suicide. They alleged that the usurers forcefully he house registered on the contention that they had failed to repay the loan. The agitation was withdrawn following the promise that action would be taken against those abetted the suicide.

Meanwhile, the Karur town police have registered a case against Kuberan and Palanisamy on the charge of collecting exorbitant rate of interest.
