Motivating government employees to be honest , installing cameras at offices to check graft , and above all the will to fight bribery are needed to bring down corruption, said Jayashree Muralidaran, District Collector.

Delivering the valedictory address at the vigilance awareness week celebrations organised by the Tiruchi Railway Division here on Thursday, the Collector referred to the ‘great success’ the district administration has achieved in its fight against corruption. Installing cameras at different places in the collectorate has been welcomed by both the employees and general public alike.

People should develop the attitude to fight unlawful practices and should give up their reservation in this regard. “Anti-corruption movement should be a mass movement to uproot the evils of graft,” she said.

Transparency is the sine qua non for a corruption-free administration.

With the computerisation of systems and processes in government departments, corruption had come down to a great extent. Ms.Muralidharan appealed to public servants to develop skill and integrity. Efficiency in work and thorough knowledge of rules and regulations are the tools to fight corruption. S.A.Abdul Rahman, Additional Divisional Railway Manager, said that slogan and essay writing and elocution contests were held as part of the celebrations.

The Collector gave away prizes to winners.
