Training programme in medicinal plant extraction

Periyar Technology Business Incubator attached to the Periyar Maniammai University, Thanjavur, has announced an entrepreneurship development programme in ‘Medicinal Plant Extraction and Product Making’ for interested diploma/ degree holders in science or technology.

The six-week training programme sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology, New Delhi, through Entrepreneurship Development Institute of India, Ahmedabad, will be organised free of cost for participants in the age group of 18 to 35 years at the Periyar College of Pharmaceutical Sciences in Tiruchi.

For aspirants with exceptional entrepreneurial capabilities, the specified qualification and age limit will not be impeding factors. Preference will be given to women, A.P.Aruna, Chief Executive In-Charge, Periyar TBI, said in a press release.

The programme will equip participants with the essentials of identifying and establishing a viable business venture on their own. Viable business plans prepared by participants will be scrutinised by bank officials for arranging financial assistance through banks and financial institutions.

They participants will qualify for financial assistance from nationalised banks under the Prime Minister Employment Generation Programme (PMEGP), Tamil Nadu’s Unemployment Youth Employment Generation Programme (UYEGP) and New Entrepreneur and Entrepreneurship Development Scheme (NEEDS). For bigger business plans, venture capital can also be arranged.

Candidates in need of additional skill can undergo modular trainings offered at Vallam and Tiruchi centres of Periyar TBI, which offers handholding services free of cost under Rajiv Gandhi Udayami Mitra Yojana of the Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprises. Trainees enrolling in incubation programme can avail space, infrastructure, and technology support from the Periyar TBI, which will also consider investing seed money in the start-ups that promise scalability and success.

Candidates will be admitted for the programme slated for start during the third week of February on ‘first come first basis’.
