Computer knowledge has become inevitable for all nowadays. When acquired by differently-abled persons, it will go a long way in helping them to get a job and stay in the job market.
With a view to help differently-abled persons, district rehabilitation office, Rural Training centre of Indian Overseas Bank and APTECH computer firm in Thanjavur have organised a training programme for 30 differently-abled persons here on Monday.
M. S. Shanmugham, District Collector, who is the brain behind the programme, inaugurated the training and distributed guideline books to the participants at a function held at APTECH computer firm on Monday.
The training, according to the beneficiaries, is god send for them. It will provide them additional skill, a necessary one in modern day. It will improve our employability through with we can eke out our livelihood they said.
Anjammal from Karambayam near Pattukottai, an orthopaedically challenged person, is a beneficiary. She has completed her degree course (B.A) and is working in a shop. "I have some training on windows earlier. This will help me to manage office" she said. Punyakumari from Orathanadu is another orthopaedically challenged person. She has completed her post graduation and M.Phil degree. For her this is the first time she is going to be trained on computers. "I hope this will help me a lot in my life", she said.
Kavitha from Orathanadu is a deaf girl. Like her many other deaf girls also are taking the training.
According to K. Kaliyamurthy, District Rehabilitation Officer, specially trained teachers from Government deaf and dumb school will impart training to the differently-abled persons. The training will continue till December 12.
Speaking on the occasion S. Krishna Prasad, Senior Regional Manager, IOB said that Rural Training Centre of IOB has given so far 190 training programmes to nearly 6,000 persons. "IOB is happy to associate itself with this programme for differently- abled persons", he said.
R. Lakshmanan, Manager, APTECH computers said that the trainees will be taught computer fundamentals, working on operating system, Office automation Application (Office 2000), Internet and Integrating Office application and internet.
S. T. Ravikumar, Assistant General Manager, National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD), P. Vetriselvan, Lead District Manager, IOB, M. Ravichandran, Director of Rural Training Centre, participated in the meeting.
