Token demonstration by public sector bank employees

June 23, 2011 08:42 pm | Updated 08:42 pm IST - NAGAPATTINAM:

Employees of public sector banks staged a token demonstration as a prelude to the nation-wide strike announced for July 7, here outside the State Bank of India office on Thursday evening.

Banks have expressed their dissatisfaction with the recommendations of the Khandelwal Committee on issues of compensation and recruitment. The A.K.Khandelwal Committee was formed to look into human resource issues of Public Sector Banks, under the ex-chairperson of Bank of Baroda. The Committee has made far-reaching changes to the existing policies of recruitment and compensation for employees of PSBs.

The banks, besides calling for scrapping of Khandelwal Committee recommendations including contentious issues of outsourcing, have also sought resolution of ‘pending issues' concerning banks.

All banks participated in the token demonstration here as a run up to the July 7 strike by all PSBs in the country.
