Work on the construction of apartments by the Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board for the benefit of 432 families has been completed at Tiruvanaikovil and the apartments would be ready for occupation within a week’s time.

The work was taken up on a sprawling area of about 10 acres in February 2012 , according to official sources. The district administration has identified beneficiaries from among the slum dwellers located in and around Srirangam.

Divided into 18 blocks, each comprising 24 houses, the apartments have been constructed at a total cost of Rs.24.44 crore. Apart from providing houses with a plinth area of 325 square feet each, the board has provided various other amenities. Fair price shops, anganwadi centres, and amusement and recreation parks for the occupants would be part of the plan.

The Tiruchirapalli City Corporation has built a separate drainage line for the quarters, according to sources.
