Tamil Nadu is suffering today as both the AIADMK and the DMK are not interested in the State’s welfare, Communist Party of India (Marxist) politburo member Brinda Karat said on Thursday.
Stating that the AIADMK and the DMK were two sides of the same coin, Ms. Brinda said there was a competition in corruption between the two parties in the State. Campaigning for the CPI(M) candidate, M. Jayaseelan, in Lalgudi, Ms. Brinda Karat said the DMK and the AIADMK were unable to say a word against the Narendra Modi government at the Centre as cases were going on in the courts against the leaders of both parties. “Therefore, the interests of Tamil Nadu are sacrificed,” she said. The policies of the Modi government had led to price rise, she said.
At a time when non-Congress and non-BJP ruled States throughout the country were fighting against the Centre, the DMK and the AIADMK remained silent in Parliament as they were keen on their personal interests and not interested about the State, Ms. Brinda said.
The youth, farmers, and the working class were suffering in Tamil Nadu, she said and claimed that the People’s Welfare Front was going to change the politics of the State.
Those who had betrayed the social reforms of Periyar would be taught a lesson by the people of Tamil Nadu, she said. The State was facing shortage of drinking water, but there were TASMAC outlets every where.
For the first time after many decades a viable alternative to the corrupt politics of the DMK and the AIADMK had emerged in the State, the senior CPI-M leader said appealing to the voters to extend their support to the People’s Welfare Front.
